On November 10, 1999, members of the House Resources Committee worked toward passage of landmark legislation to preserve and protect natural resources and public lands. The bill, H.R. 701, the Conservation and Reinvestment Act of 1999, is a compromise between two bills, one by Representative George Miller (D-CA) (seen in photo's center in light blue shirt) and the other by Representative Don Young (R-AK) ), the committee chairman, (sitting to Mr. Miller's right). The bill passed by a vote of 37 to 12. See press release dated November 10th.
