On September 22, in Congressman George Miller's Washington office, members of the WWII Black Navy Veterans of Great Lakes presented Congressman Miller an award for his decade-long effort to clear the names of 50 black sailors charged with mutiny following a huge explosion at the Port Chicago Naval Magazine in 1944. Miller is leading the national effort to secure a pardon from President Clinton for one of the last remaining sailors, Freddie Meeks of Los Angeles.
