House approves $750,000 for Vallejo Project
Miller Announces House Approval of $750,000 for Vallejo Project
Appropriations Bill Funds Wastewater and Storm Drain Improvements at Mare Island
WASHINGTON, DC – The House of Representatives today approved $750,000 for sanitary water projects at Mare Island in Vallejo, CA, announced Rep. George Miller (D-Martinez) who requested the funding from Congress. The money will go to the City of Vallejo to help improve a sewer and storm drain system that originated in the 1800s. Today’s House vote is a key step, but not the final stop, for approval of this funding. Final approval is expected in September.
“This funding is an investment in a long-term infrastructure in our community,” Miller said. “I am proud to continue to be able to secure funding for projects like those at Mare Island that directly help improve our community.”
Miller has previously secured funding for various projects at Mare Island, including $500,000 in FY09. The funding has to be approved by the Senate and gain the President's signature before it can be awarded.
Details of what the House approved today are below.
$750,000 Mare Island Sanitary Sewer and Storm Drain Improvements
City of Vallejo
The current sanitary sewer and storm drain system on Mare Island is in a severely degraded condition because it evolved from a system built in the 1800's, which combined sanitary and storm water into one system. A modernization and upgrade of the current sanitary sewer and storm water drain system is critical to improving the overall water quality of the region. Federal funding will be used to replace the existing sanitary sewer pipes and expand the storm water drainage system.
The funds were allocated as part of the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2010. The Appropriations Act is one of twelve FY2010 appropriations (spending) bills that the House will consider this summer to fund the federal government. The complete list of Miller’s appropriations requests can be found on his website at georgemiller.house.gov/appropsFY10.
