WHAT: Foreclosure Prevention Seminar

Miller will speak to struggling homeowners at a free informational “Foreclosure Prevention Seminar” organized by the West Contra Costa Association of Realtors. This seminar will offer advice on how to avoid a mortgage meltdown. Credit counselors will be available to meet with anyone with questions and will be offered in several languages.

As foreclosure rates across the country continue to rise alarmingly, Contra Costa County is experiencing the highest foreclosure rate in the San Francisco Bay Area. Studies show that more than half of homeowners do not seek help when they begin to fall behind on payments, but those who do seek help in the early stages of delinquency are more likely to avoid foreclosure. At the press conference, the speakers will discuss the different ways through which foreclosure can be prevented and the help that is available for struggling homeowners.

SATURDAY, MARCH 1, 2008

Seargent Matt Zeiter, US Marine Corps

WHAT: Purple Heart Pinning Ceremony

Miller will present the Purple Heart medal to Sergeant Matt Zeiter of the US Marine Corps. While serving in Iraq, then-Corporal Zeiter was injured on November 11, 2004 when an IED (improvised explosive device) exploded and threw him into the air. He incurred injuries due to the blast. Sgt. Zeiter worked with Chris Dacumos of Congressman Miller’s Richmond staff, Nathan Johnson in the Vet Center, and Gary Villaba with the County Veterans Service Office in order to receive the medal.

Sgt. Zeiter grew up in Rodeo and attended Salesians High School in Richmond. He joined the Marine Reserves in 1999. In 2004, he volunteered for active duty and did one tour in Iraq, as part of a security and reconnaissance detail. Sgt Zeiter will be joined by fellow Marines and other friends at this ceremony.
