DRILL Act proposed by Democrats
Earlier this week, a majority of the House voted in favor of the Democrats’ Drill Responsibly in Leased Lands (DRILL) Act. Because of the particular rules of the House, however, we needed to win by two thirds, not just a majority. So the bill was not approved this time around. The DRILL Act would:
-- promote drilling in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, an area that would produce more oil and faster than drilling in ANWR
-- reinstate a ban on foreign export of Alaskan oil
-- compel oil companies to drill on the 68 million federal acres they already have the right to drill in.
The DRILL act is just one part of our Comprehensive Energy Solution that includes:
-- breaking our addiction to oil
-- investing in renewable energy and conservation techniques
-- diversifying our energy portfolio to include solar, wind, geothermal, biofuel power
-- releasing oil from strategic reserves right now
Democrats are calling on the President to release 10% of America’s oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). Releasing oil from the SPR would immediately help to lower gas prices, while drilling offshore would take decades to provide any new oil and would reduce the price of gas by less than two cents per gallon.
