Dear Friend,

The decision to go to war in Iraq was a tragedy for our country, our servicemen and women, and America’s standing in the world. We must to bring it to an end.

There is widespread frustration that Congress has not been able to move more quickly to end the war. I fully understand and appreciate how disappointed many Americans are about that.

(Find out more about my position on the Iraq War)

President Bush has made it clear that he will not sign into law any legislation that sets timetables, no matter how reasonable, for the redeployment of U.S. troops. And the fact remains that he has enough support among Republican members of Congress to sustain his veto.

The impasse on Iraq has led to many questions and some confusion about why Democrats, who now are in the majority in the House and the Senate, have not been able to do more - and sooner - about the war. I’d like to have a dialogue with you about this, to answer your questions and let you know what the next steps are in this critical battle to bring our troops home safely.

We promised a new direction in the war in Iraq and we will not back down until we get one.

What I’d like to do is hold a running virtual town hall meeting on the war in Iraq.

Video your questions, upload them to Youtube, Splash Cast, BlipTV or Google Video and tag them with the phrase “askgeorge” (all one word).

Or if you’ve got a blog, post your question as an entry and tag it “askgeorge.” If you are on Facebook, you can join the "Ask George" group.

Or email me at george.miller@mail.house.gov with the subject line “askgeorge”.

I’ll discuss your ideas and questions on “Miller TV,” my new video Podcast.

Bringing this war to an end is a difficult and critical struggle but you need to know that we will not give up until we succeed. Let’s work together to make it happen. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

George Miller
